UberGo

Designed to boost rider demand for driver-partners. Hatchback or sedan vehicles accepted, making it more affordable than ever to operate on the Uber app.

Additional requirements

  • 5-door hatchback or sedan — 12 years old or newer (in 2026, from 2014)
  • Seat maximum 2 passengers in addition to the driver
  • Working windows and air conditioning
  • No full-sized vans or trucks
  • No taxi cabs, government cars, or other marked vehicles
  • No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles

UberX

Most recent sedans are eligible to drive with UberX in South Africa.

Additional requirements

  • 4-door sedan in good condition
  • Sedans 8 years old or newer (in 2026, from 2019)
  • Seat at least 4 passengers in addition to the driver
  • Working windows and air conditioning
  • No hatchbacks, full-sized vans or trucks
  • No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
  • ABS, passenger and driver airbags fitted

Uber Comfort

A premium product built around extra legroom and comfort. Only selected vehicle types are eligible for consideration.

Additional requirements

  • High quality sedan or SUV
  • Model year 5 years or newer (in 2026, from 2022)
  • Seat at least 4 passengers in addition to the driver
  • Working windows and air conditioning
  • No full-sized vans, trucks or marked vehicles
  • Highly rated drivers with a minimum rating of 4.9

Uber Black

Charge higher fares with a mid-tier luxury sedan in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.

Additional requirements

  • Model year 5 years old or newer (in 2026, from 2021)
  • Leather or vinyl interior with no cosmetic damage
  • Seat at least 4 passengers in addition to the driver
  • ABS, passenger and driver airbags fitted
  • No salvaged, rebuilt or marked vehicles
  • Makes allowed: BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Jaguar

Uber XL / Van

Larger groups, more seats — 5-door MPV or Premium MPV vehicles.

Additional requirements

  • Model year 8 years or newer (in 2026, from 2019)
  • 5-door MPV or Premium MPV
  • ABS, passenger and driver airbags fitted
  • Good condition with no cosmetic damage
